My name is Erin, and I am so glad that you are here!
On this blog you’ll get to share in my adventures of creating items for the home and family. Along the way I’ll share my favorite tips, tutorials, and patterns with you so that you can join in the fun. If you’re an absolute beginner and want to start knitting or sewing (amongst other handcrafts), or have been creating for decades and are looking for new ideas and community, you’ve found the right place to be!
I’ve been interested in creating handmades for as long as I can remember. I learned how to knit and embroider on a sewing machine when I was six and have never stopped. Since having my initial lessons from my mom and grandma, I’ve self-taught myself crochet, quilting, and spinning (yarn, not myself), and aspire to learn woodworking. Hello, new furniture!
Now that I’m a homemaker, wife, and mama to two sweet little boys, I have to be intentional about taking the time to create every day. My ideal day would involve being surrounded by my family and having ample time to create whatever is on my heart. It doesn’t often happen, but when it does I am beyond happy.
Journey to Handmade came about because I had this crazy idea to see how many things in my home I could make instead of purchasing. Let it be said that my motto for years has been, “I could make that!” or “I bet I could figure that out!” From clothing and toys to recipes and furniture, my Journey to Handmade is all about developing skills to make it all possible. I’ll be honest with you – I’m learning along the way and and challenging myself to do some projects that are out of my comfort zone. Some projects end up costing more time and money than they were worth, and others end up being incredible experiences. I’m happy to share the stories (both good and bad) with you!
