This last week was a return to “normal” for us. We got to settle back into our routines and habits after the holidays, which gave me the extra energy to tackle a new sewing project: making a project bag!

What I Loved: This bag came together so quickly. I made the large size hoping to house my sweater in it. Unfortunately the bag ended up too small…fortunately it will be perfect to House a pair of socks or mittens! And these fabrics from Moda and Robert Kaufman make me so happy!

What I’d do differently: Well, since I wanted to have a bag big enough for a sweater, I’m making a second one in this style but much larger. I cut the top outside panel 9″x21″ for take two. We’ll see how it goes…I also wanted a trendy metal zip on it but was too eager to wait for a trip to the store, so the bigger one will have that, too.

What I learned: I haven’t made a box bottom bag before. It was much simpler than I thought it would be. I also installed a zipper that was connected on the top and bottom…that skill needs some development still!

  1. I made a few project bags last summer but I also want a slightly larger one for bigger projects. This seems like a fairly straightforward pattern. I’m sure I have enough fabric 😉

Ill let you know how the bigger version goes! The large size on the pattern is definitely too small, but I have high hopes for my 21” wide version being sweater sized
