When my large project bag ended up being the perfect size for a shawl or socks project, I knew I wanted to try again, this time even larger to have a bag suitable for a sweater project.

Introducing: Jumbo Bag!

What I Loved: This bag came together so easily!

What I Modified: The dimensions for this bag were as follows…

  • Outer top: 21″x9″
  • Outer bottom: 21″x8″
  • Lining: 21″x16.5″ (I actually did the lining just like the outside for this one because I had three fat quarters I wanted to use and it was easier to just add a fourth fat quarter from my stash)
  • Interfacing: 2 21″x16.5″ pieces

What I’d do Different: For this bag I tried using the recommended Heat Bond product, and to be honest, I didn’t like working with it. I can see why it would be brilliant if you were making a cosmetic bag because it would help resist water. But a normal project bag doesn’t need that kind of protection (for me). It also turned out a *bit* larger than I intended…for the next one I may try 17″ wide for a happy medium.

Cute fabrics! I want to make a sweater project bag so maybe I’ll try the 17” recommendation 🙂

If you do, let me know how it turns out!

  2. It’s really cute! Is it something I could attempt or do you need to be an experienced sewer?

You could totally do this! The hardest part is putting in the zipper, which isn’t too bad.
